October 18 Diary Post

Did /Been Sick day. Spent the afternoon in bed and while this was supposed to be a big studio day, didn't plan on making art. Got up at 5:00 pm and after some soup worked in my art journal. Used black and sepia conte crayons to dirty up a page that was already stained with tea bags, had pen scribbles (what could be uglier than blue pen) and gold paint. Added pencil crayons over for color in some areas, then smudged on a layer of white gouache.
Felt- Surprised. I had fun with my art session and didn't think I'd feel like making anything today.
Something I want to remember- I love making art. When I stop pushing myself or setting out an agenda of what to work on, it seems I choose to make art every day. Now to see if that's because I'm just 'in the flow', or if that's my more or less natural state.

Glad you sound like you're feeling better, Shayla :)

I understand what you mean about agendas and schedules for art-making. The problem with these - for me at least anyway - is that they just don't fit in with my muse ;) I tend to make a plan and then do something completely different. Artists are not traditionally rebels for nothing! My approach is now one of flexibility: Have a plan but be prepared to ditch it at any time. Seems to work...

Glad to hear you're feeling better. When I had 4 small kids at home I dreamed of a time when I could create art whenever I felt like it. Now they have grown up and moved out but I'm still dreaming of the time when I could create art whenever I felt like it! If I don't schedule the time I can let it slip away.

I hear you, girls. Priorities, flexibility, and time. I've struggled with them. Good to hear you've found your balance.

Like Wild C, I try to be flexible in case I scare my muse but invariably I keep to my schedule. Hope you are feeling better today.
