Don't know if you are a U2 fan, but their latest album is "No Line on the Horizon". This would have been a great album cover for them. One of my favorites that you've done.

wow, Shayla - it feels very serene even with the dark area at the top :)

Shayla, you definitely have found your mojo. These new paintings just keep getting better and I love, love love the latest 3. I can feel you are completely comfortable with what you are doing and it's wonderful to watch you blossom. Very exciting work!

P.S The new pieces would also look brilliant double (or triple) the size. Would love to see this one on the wall.

Matt, yes I do like U2. I haven't heard their new album yet, but that title is so intriguing I'm going to hunt it down today. Thanks.

Jeane, that's good to hear. There's a lot of black in my new pieces, but I'm not going for a morbid feel.

M. Kate, thanks and have a lovely weekend yourself. Hugs.

Robyn, good point. It's important to give people an idea of perspective when showing art on the internet. I'll try taking some indoor shots to show the scale. Thanks for your encouragement! I was having a blast with these paintings. Marketing for the show shriveled up my mojo for now and I'm anxious to get back to painting in peace. Learned a good lesson though- they don't go together. Maybe I'll try a year of painting a year of marketing...

You are definitely got the groove going on, Shayla! Each painting, and the story it represents, just gets stronger and stronger. :o) I feel so happy for you that you are in such a great creative plane at the moment. The deeper meaning here is so well done with the layers of coloring--brilliant work! Happy weekend, my friend. ((HUGS))

This is how my hometown looked like in winters! I love this darkness.

Happy weekend, Shayla!!

How interesting about you and your mentors work having similarities, both paintings look stunning on the invitation. And your new piece drew me in, at first I didn't think I liked it as much as the previous ones because of the more muted colours, but the composition and tones made me keep looking at it and I am intrigued by the three squares in the middle distance. I think this one is one of my favourites!

Love the blue values..your textures are wonderful. Are the textures in the color application or are they in the underpainting?
Either way, it's a lovely piece that is very easy on the eyes.

Tracy, *sigh* don't you just love the groovin' half of the creative cycle? Thanks for your upbuilding comments.

Mika, that is so cool! This scenery is not at all like the Maritimes. I've never been to Japan. From photos the landscape always resonates deeply. I think it's because of my favorite books when I was little featured Japanese inspired fantasy landscapes (painted by Kinuko Craft). She could make me travel!

Jane, that's neat. I know how you love bright colors. I do too and found it odd at firt that these are the ones that 'feel right.'

DJ, that's a question I love to answer. I get to brag a little ;) Both. There are at least 20 layers in this painting once I finished. It started out as a failed painting that got painted over.

PS. Matt, what a great discovery "No Line on the Horizon" is. I spent a whole afternoon getting lost in the lyrics. Thanks!!!
