Dream Journal Page

Do you ever dream about work? Leah at Creative Every Day has a prompt to get the creative juices flowing that centers on your dreams. She offers a variety of ways to approach it. Coincidentally, Bridgette of Contemplating the Moon was talking about her 'burnt umber' dreams. With all that talk of dreaming, I guess its no surprise that I had another art dream.

It was gold, warm, and glowing. It was a row of lace paper dolls. I remember thinking, "Yes! Paper dolls. That is genius!!" Then I woke up, and all I could think was, "Paper dolls? What the heck?!"

Oh well. While listening to a seminar I had the itch to scribble in my journal. No amazing ideas were forthcoming so I took a page I'd already prepared with blue, and pink doggie stamps (hand carved, inspired by the paper cutting M.Kate sent), then made my chain of lace paper dolls.

Oh my goodness, I so love this spread. I love the colors and the delicate lace elements. Gorgeous!

I have that experience with dream art a lot. It can be frustrating trying to remember, but I think your approach of just letting it flow really worked well here.

I love the colours and textures Shayla, and what a shame that publicity shot was never used, its a great photo

Sadly, when I dream of anything related to my work, I get nightmares... clients asking the impossible, being lost on my way to a gallery in "the city", being unable to come up with new ideas...

I have found, though, that even bad dream images sometimes need to be expunged through painting or drawing. I have become my own therapist... have I a fool for a patient?

This is just beautiful. You know I have your painting hung in my office and many people asked about it. When I told them you sent it over the meaning, night and day, they were so amazed at both painting and the deep meaning too. Glad the paper cutting gave some inspiration to you. I do dream about my work, it's a nightmare - no kidding haha :) Sigh, how always wished to be a domestic goddess, not happening at all. It's back to working my butt off this whole year, well..no more daydreaming in the office for sure. Big hugs for the week !!

This is a very happy, fun piece, Shayla! The texture of the lace dollies and bright pink dogs, it has a festive, playful feel. The color combos are exciting. Paper dolls...tee-hee...sounds like fun, to me...and why not?! I don't actually remember a lot of my dreams. I've tried some exercises to recall my dreams better, to keep a journal by my bed to write in. But I'm so foggy when I wake up, nothing seems coherent--LOL! But I do like when creative solutions to my artwork present themselves in dreams, and I have occasionally dreamed of a piece to try for, which is exciting. :o) Wishing you a happy, creative week, my friend ((HUGS))

Leah, yeah, a lot can be gained by not sensoring and just going with the flow. Thanks for the inspiration.

Jane, I think I can see some of your colors there. Hot pink, bright blue...

Patrice, you're no fool. Painting is the best therapist. It feels good and it never gives wacky advice.

Robyn, you must be a sound sleeper. I've heard you don't need to remember dreams for them to be useful creativly.

Thanks Bindu, coming over for a visit:)

M.Kate, so glad to hear you're enjoying the painting. Sorry that work is so tough and I hope you get your dream to be a domestic goddess. Nightmare jobs sure take their toll. *Hugs*

Tracy, I'm there with you- a foggy morning person for sure. My morning rituals of tea and a book are all I can and want to handle.

Shayla.. Wonderful Layering and repetition... I like it when designs disappear and re-emerge..

well John had the craziest dream the other night.. he dreamed he lived at a palace like Versailles but he couldn't remember how he got there.. so when elegant folk kept coming up to him and asking directions to different parts of the Palace, he sadly told them he had been hit on the head and had temporary amnesia. It doesn't really relate to your dream but I thought it was funny...

I sort of did the tag too...

Mika, great. It's always nice to have a plan B if we run out of ideas, although I don't think that will happen to you :)

Gwen, you made me laugh out loud. I love situational humour. I could just picture him looking all befuddled.

Ro, thanks!

Lovely piece Shayla but is it only my dark mind that sees some tension between the dark blue and the lace and puppy dogs? For me its the tension that makes it great :-)

Love it! Aren't art dreams the best...even if we wake up scratching our heads? The colors in this spread are very dream like, nocturnal, yet with activity. So much is happening while we sleep, after all.

Wild Cherry,I didn't mention my take on it, because I wanted to let people form their own impressions, but I see the tension in it too. The lecture I was listening to at the time was "Art and Dimentia" and I can see how it influenced the piece.

Jeane- Ok! Coming right up :)

Bridgette- My French teacher once told us that we would really be bilingual once we dreamed in French. Maybe art is like language.

Very pretty. I dream about art all the time, but mostly forget my ideas when I wake up.

I can remember deaming about school...
Have you ever experimented with hypnogognic visions?
Before you fall aslep, your thinking patterns aren't quite the same as normal.
Just allow whatever images come to your head to form, I found I had too many to know what to do with. Sharks leaping out of fish, long orange peel going into the distance, cats surrounded by strange claws, rows of dominoes etc. Might be fun.
