"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver, liquid drops." Langston Hughes
The spring rains have started. Even in the city I like the rain when walking under the cosiness of an umbrella. The gray is easy on the eyes and restful.
This painting is much like "Éloge du Silence" in meaning. The quietness of walking alone can be restorative but to me rain adds an element of security, like being wrapped in a soft blanket.

Workshops are rare in these parts. P.E.I. artist Sandi Komst is doing a painting workshop in Rothesay, N.B. on the 24 and 25 of April. It's $150, lunch is included and the class is limited to 15 people. There's just a bit of space left. Contact the coordinator, Eleanor Ferguson Jenkins at 831-7693 or 848-6646 for more info.

Serene and yet dynamic. I love this series of 50/50 (horizon/sky) landscapes. I'm quite fond of the square format myself!.
I love the serenity and comfort of this painting, Shayla! And there is comfort in rain. Now to be caught in a deluge can be unpleasant sometimes, but gentle-dropping rain is soothing, comforting and restorative to the spirit, I think, So I quiet agree with your feelings of safety, snugness and sanctuary while under an umbrella in the rain...*sigh*... I really like you use of an almost square format and that levels of balance you create with your subjects. Such harmony in your work, but very emotive in the stillness. :o) That workshop sounds like fun! Will you be going?! Happy Days, my friend ((HUGS))
This is wonderful art. You capture the Canadian landscape so well.
It's wet here too, I agree about rain being soothing sometimes, although not if I am getting soaked cycling home from work! I do enjoy running in the rain, I like your thought about it being like a blanket.
It is so soft and calm - I wish if I could go and stay for a while inside of this painting!
Beautiful painting as usual, and I love the rain. I love the sleep in the morning when it rains, even better if it's a weekend when I dont have to wake up early :P Happy weekend Shayla...hugs.
Your painting is beautiful. It's so serene and has lovely colors. nancy
