Mood Boosting Guatemalan Textiles

The Guatemalans have such a joyous outlook on color. When my mother was travelling down there she picked up some lovely textiles. Here's my share of the booty and notice their bold and spunky use of hot pink!

Ever hear "Don't put pink with red *Gasp* They clash!"? That has got to be the most ridiculous fashion advice uttered. Well... I suppose there's likely worse, but I've never had a stronger urge to rebel then when I first heard that little "no-no." The Guatemalans were never afflicted with such foolishness. They've also seemed to avoid our irritating obsession with taupe and all shades swamp.

The stripes make up my backpack, and the geometric motif below is part of a tablecloth.

Here's my 'ode to pink' in honor of this week's Pink Saturday, hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. If you were ever a reader of Victoria magazine, you're in for a treat. There's definitely some of her spirit in the various blogs celebrating pink today.

What a great idea for a pink post, Shayla. I have always loved the way other countries use colors in their own unique style.

Have a wonderful Pink Saturday.

I really like the fabrics. The pink looks wonderful with all the colors. :) I was saddened one day when a friend told me pink didn't look good on me. Maybe it's because it was with my red hair!

Happy Pink Saturday!
take care,
Dawn

Love the vibrant, sassy textile you have there, Shayla! And I think pink goes with everything too! ;o) Seeing how other countries, cultures use and display colors is interesting, and often inspiring. Happy Pink Saturday, my friend ((HUGS))

Whoever said you can't put red and pink together hasn't seen a spectacular sunset. You'll see some purple with red, too. Isn't that another no-no?
My thought is that if God puts colors together in nature, we can too!
As for Dawn & the friend who made her think she couldn't wear pink... you probably just needed a different shade. They lean toward the blue or toward coral.

Dawn, I've heard people can wear any color as long as they get the right shade for their coloring. For some porcelain pink, others dusty pink, a bit more coral... I'm sure there's a pink for you :)

Shayla, Sine my grands are here for the week, I am so busy. I am finally able to post a few comments. I had a pink and red kitchen in the late 60's and it was so cute. My neighbors thought it was cute but wondered how I came up with the idea. My floor was red and white tiles checkered. All I did was find wallpaper with those colors. Pink and red pots and flowers. Walla!

Your fabric is colorful and fun.

I love your post today--the notion of not being able to combine Pink and Red was dispelled when I became friends with a gal from Mexico. She showed me how wrong I was. Also, I agree with your answer to Dawn. I it is the shade of the color that counts. My g. daughter is a red head and looks fabulous in pale pink! Of course, I think she would look fabulous in ANY color. Hope your Saturday was filled with great Pinks.

ZING!!! Well that colour flash certainly lifted my spirits. I can remember from a very young age that you never wore pink and red, pink and orange, orange and red. The beautiful textiles and folk art from Guatemala or Mexico is enough to squelsh those old fashioned ideas.
