New Artwork

16x20"

Hello! I just got back from holiday. I must say my favorite part was having the luxury of reading several really good books-usually all in one day. No phone answering, no going out, no cooking, nothing but being fixed to my summer time reads. Ahhh! loved it!

This painting that I'd nicknamed "My favorite mistake" is just finished and already at Heron Bay Gallery. Unfortunate things about nicknames, I can't remember its real name... It used what I'll call "The Bathtub Technique," which involved running it under the tap to manipulate the wet paint. Much fun!

Today I'm melting wax onto paper to make a new batch of faux batik papers. I've got newspapers underneath to soak up the extra wax and the smell is really strong. I've recently become more chemically sensitive and this project needs a few tweeks if I'm going to keep enjoying it. Beeswax next time, but what will I put under the paper to keep the wax from going everywhere? A silicone sheet? My pallett? I'll have to think about that.

I'm off to catch up with my favorite blogs. Have a great day!

Welcome home, Shayla! The first thing that comes to mind when looking at your new painting is...Silence! Silence after a snow storm or an avalanche. It is a very evocative painting. Did you paint it on holiday?

Thanks Robyn! Yes I finished it up on the first week of holiday.

hi shayla, thanks for stopping by my blog and for your recent comment. The architectural blue print was a great find at an estate sale!

I use wax paper to catch any errant wax drippings when I work in encaustics. I don't know if it's very different from the wax you use for encaustics.

Hi, Shayla! Great to see you back here! :o) So glad you had a great holiday...A vacation is a real vacation if you get time to read, I think! But sounds like your back in full swing there...I LOVE the mistake painting! It brings to mind the big, loud silence in winter, when there's snow all around and you can hear the beating hearts of the trees...There's a lot of feeling happening here. A new, "real" title might be Sacred Silence? ;o) The silicon matt is a good idea for your wax. Baking parchment paper might be a cheaper option--it won't melt, and a roll last a long time and you can roll out & cut to length you need. I just love the painting...I need to go look at it again! Happy Days ((HUGS))
